Crushers, gets your DVR schedules ready! Five days before we make our triumphant return to Bon Temps ("True Blood" season three premieres on June 13), we'll be making a field trip up north to Rosewood, Penn where four beautiful creatures (not of the supernatural kind... uh, that we know of) are in the midst of some "heavy drama."
That's right, ABC Family's newest original series, "Pretty Little Liars" premieres on Tuesday, June 8, and we couldn't be more psyched! Lucky for you, we caught up with two of those titular "Liars" — who include Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell and Troian Avery Bellisario — at Nylon And YouTube's Young Hollywood Party last week!
Fans of Sara Shepard's book series will be happy to know that the show won't stray too far off from the books. "We're filming the fifth episode," explained Lucy, "[and] so far it's pretty close."
While the author hasn't had a giant presence on set, Lucy and Ashley couldn't stop gushing about how "amazing" she was after meeting her for dinner in New York city recently. Plus, Lucy teased, "There's a surprise from Sara Shepard coming up — that's all we can say!" We smell a cameo in the works!
As for that drama we keep hearing about, we learned from the girls that their alter egos will have plenty of "every day issues" that the audience will be able relate to. For instance, Ashley's Hanna will face an an eating disorder, while Lucy's Aria will deal with her parent's looming divorce.
"She's just going through a lot of issues with her family," Lucy said. "Her dad is cheating on her mom, and that's a lot to go through at a young age." Still, the raven-haired starlet admits Aria is "a really fun" character to play because of how strong-willed she is. "She's very independent, she sort of knows who she is at a very young age — she's 16 and just very mature."
