Is it Mona? Or Jenna? How about the newly introduced "T.N.A. Club"? Whomever it is, I think we can all agree that the true identity of A on ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars" is one of the best-kept secrets in Hollywood. Just how under wraps is it? Author Sara Shepard, who penned the popular book series on which the TV show is based, doesn't even know who A is!
When we spoke with Sara recently in anticipation of her other book-to-television adaptation, "The Lying Game," we just had to ask if she knew the face behind Rosewood's mysterious texting thumbs. (Reports have indicated that the TV series' A will likely be different than the books'.)
"I don't know!" Sara insisted. "I could probably find out, but in some ways I don't want to know because I watch the show, just like everybody else. It's really fun to watch and think, 'Where is this going?' and just not have any idea and think, 'Is it going to be the same? Is that why they made that character do that?' But I really don't know. Plus, if I knew, I'm afraid I would slip and give it away. They would be really mad at me."
Fair enough! (We probably couldn't keep that secret either...) Ms. Shepard went on to say that although the TV show isn't a carbon copy of her novels, she trusts producer I. Marlene King and can see her books' influence on the soapy series. "I know that Marlene and probably many of the other writers have read the books because elements that are in the books show up, and I'm like, 'Oh, they're still reading the books.' For instance, Aria and Jason, which is a big thing happening right now, happened in book seven, six? That's kind of exciting."
Who do you think A is? Are you surprised even Sara doesn't know?
